Relocating your office with minimal to no downtime can be a daunting challenge. If your office relies on voice and data to keep it’s doors open you will face additional challenges. Here are five quick tips that can help your move go smoother.
- Check to see if your current voice and data provider (or carrier) can service your new address before you sign a new lease. If they can not and you’re not under contract with your current provider find a new one that will service your new location, or consider finding a different location that your current or new provider service.
- Give yourself enough time It can take anywhere from a week to six weeks or even longer to get your services provisioned and installed at your new location. It’s not uncommon to think ahead six months to a year prior to your move.
- If you are up-sizing make sure your current voice and data services can handle the additional staff, if not consider what will be needed to handle the new capacity.
- Your phone system servers, and workstations will have to be moved and setup in the new location as well the proper cabling. If you don’t have an in house voice and data staff who can handle relocating your equipment and cabling, you will have to find an outside vendor who can. Some moving companies will offer this service, but would you hire a butcher to pull a tooth?
- Consider hiring an expert to coordinate the above steps for you so you can concentrate on other areas that will surely be needed with this relocation.
These tips do not cover everything to be considered if your office operations are tech heavy, but can be a great starting block. I will cover this subject in more detail in a later post.
